The European Generic Medicines Association (EGA) has  today announced its adherence to the European Stakeholders Model (ESM), making another positive step in the EU medicines supply chain's united effort to combat counterfeiting.

The ESM was established in response to the adoption of the Falsified Medicines Directive (2011/62/EU), by industry stakeholders EAEPC, EFPIA (originator companies), GIRP (EU full-line wholesalers) and PGEU (EU pharmacies). EGA's participation further strengthens the ESM coalition.

The ESM offers a cost-effective technological solution using 2d barcoding to verify the authenticity of medicinal products, combating the entry of falsified medicines in the EU supply chain and ensuring patient safety across Europe.
